What sensor fusion means on a boat.
Sensor fusion is the process of combining multiple time-aligned signals to estimate a state more reliably than any single sensor can provide. On a SmartTrim system, the core picture can include inertial motion, GPS-derived speed and position, and selected data available from the vessel’s marine network.
The goal is not to collect every signal a boat can expose. It is to collect the signals that materially improve a decision: what the boat is doing, how fast conditions are changing and whether an observed performance change is likely tied to setup, operating point or environment.
Local-first architecture
Critical interpretation happens on the vessel.
SmartTrim is designed so core sensing and control do not depend on a cloud round trip. Local processing supports responsive operation and preserves functionality when the boat has no cellular service. Connected services can still add value for updates, fleet visibility, analysis and model improvement.
Where NMEA 2000 is available, the system can consume supported data exposed on that network. Exact signal availability varies by engine brand, gateway, display ecosystem and vessel configuration, so SmartTrim treats network data as an enhancement rather than assuming every boat exposes the same fields.
