A good marine test log preserves the conditions and timing behind a result, not only the result itself.

What a useful test log contains

At minimum, a performance test benefits from GPS speed and position plus accurate timestamps. Motion data adds pitch and roll. Supported network data can add engine RPM, fuel rate and other operating signals. Setup notes capture variables the sensors cannot know, such as propeller model, passenger load or hardware changes.

Why synchronization matters

A screenshot of GPS speed and a separate photo of the tachometer do not prove the values occurred at the same instant. Synchronized logging creates a shared timeline that lets the tester identify acceleration windows, steady-state segments and before-and-after changes with much greater confidence.

Repeatability beats a lucky peak

Performance testing is strongest when the same procedure can be repeated. That means similar fuel and passenger load, defined speed or RPM points, reciprocal passes when appropriate and notes about wind and water conditions. The goal is to distinguish a real setup change from ordinary run-to-run noise.
